Spiritual Meaning of Not Dreaming

For many people, dreaming is a deep and profound part of the human experience. Dreams let us learn from our daily experiences while also breaking free of the binds of everyday life.

If you do not dream or do not remember your dreams, you may wonder if there is a spiritual reason you never dream.

Sometimes, not dreaming does not mean anything is wrong. But often, it is a sign of stagnation. This post will explain spiritual reasons for not dreaming and what you can do about them.

What is the Spiritual Meaning of Dreams?

The spiritual meaning of dreams can vary. In some cases, your dreams could be your subconscious mind or higher self trying to communicate a deep truth with you. In other cases, your spirit guides or other spiritual beings could be trying to make a connection with you.

Many believe that the dream worlds you traverse are themselves part of a spiritual realm or that you might be catching glimpses of past lives or other worlds.

People who are not able to remember their dreams may struggle to learn all of the lessons they are imparting. Their unconscious mind and conscious mind may remain disconnected.

What Does it Mean When You Don’t Dream?

Considering all the spiritual gifts that come with dreaming, you may be concerned if you have never dreamed or no longer dream anymore. Let’s consider what not dreaming might mean from a spiritual standpoint.

Are You Not Dreaming, or Simply Forgetting Your Dreams?

Forgetting Your Dreams

According to research published in the Journal of Sleep Research, there is evidence that every person dreams. That is irrespective of whether they remember their dreams.

There is a big difference between not dreaming and forgetting dreams. Most likely, you are still dreaming. You just do not recall it when you wake up.

That is good news because it means you are still getting some of the spiritual value of your dreams. Your unconscious mind is a part of you and is learning and building connections.

Still, it is in your interest to find a way to remember your dreams so your conscious mind can get more out of the experience.

Is Not Dreaming a Sign of Depression?

Possibly, in some cases, a person who is depressed might dream less or not at all. But often, depressed people dream more. Not only that, but they may have more vivid dreams.

So, if you don’t remember your dreams, it probably is not because you are depressed. That said, you can certainly still be depressed and not remember your dreams.

In depression, people do sometimes have a hard time being motivated. It seems entirely possible that for some people, this might also lead to a lack of motivation to recall dreams.

Perhaps in some individual cases, that could be an explanation if there appears to be a link.

Spiritual Meaning of Not Dreaming or Forgetting Dreams

Below, we go over some common spiritual reasons for not dreaming or forgetting dreams. Keep in mind that there may sometimes be physiological factors at play as well.

1. You are repressing your dreams and their messages.

You are repressing your dreams and their messages

It could be that the reason why you’re not able to remember your dreams is because you do not want to.

Your dreams hold important messages about your present, recommendations for your future, and even insights into your past. Alas, many of us respond to challenging information by pushing it out of view.

So, while your higher self wants you to have these messages, it may be that you’re not ready to take in the truth yet. This is especially likely if you have trauma.

2. You do not trust your inner self.

Sometimes, the issue is not that we do not want to know what our inner selves want to share with us. It may just be that we do not trust that part of ourselves.

Many of us are brought up to believe that our conscious mind is all we are and that our free will resides entirely in that part of us. But our being is much deeper than that; the conscious mind is only the tip of the iceberg.

Your deeper, inner self is part of you and does have your best interests at heart. But until you are able to reconnect with your shadow self and reintegrate, you will find it hard to remember your dreams and their messages.

3. Your third eye is blocked.

Your third eye chakra is located between your brows and is a gateway that connects you with the spiritual world. So, one of the causes of not dreaming is sometimes a blocked third eye chakra.

Thankfully, there is a relatively simple fix to this cause of not being able to remember our dreams. We will share it with you later on in this post.

4. You are stagnating.

Dreams are a way for us to learn key life lessons that will help us make sense of our past, improve ourselves, and take the next steps in our lives.

That means that your mind may stagnate if you are not dreaming. It has no lessons to offer you because you are not motivated to learn. You are simply stuck.

You will need to find a way to get unstuck if you want to recover your ability to dream and remember the experience later.

5. Your spiritual inbox is empty.

Conversely, it could be that the reason you don’t have dreams is because you are not stuck at all. Perhaps you are right where you need to be.

You have resolved your past issues, you are happy in the present, and you either want to stay where you are for a while or you are already moving steadily forward with your plans for the future.

In short, you know who you are, what your mission is, and where you are going. Thus, your dreams have nothing to tell you.

6. Your guides are reaching out through other channels.

While dreaming is a key way that many people learn, we are all unique individuals with different strengths and abilities. It could be you’re not dreaming because your guides have other more effective ways of reaching out to you.

An inability to dream or remember dreaming does not mean you are incapable of learning. If you are getting nowhere trying to remember your dreams, maybe it is time to shift your focus to other means of learning and self-discovery.

Bible Verses About Forgetting Dreams

If you are forgetting your dreams, there are a few Bible verses that may help you.

Numbers 12:6

6 he said, “Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams.

This verse is telling believers that God speaks to them through dreams. So, if you are a Christian and you have no dreams, you could try praying to God for dreams.

1 Samuel 28:15

15 Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” “I am in great distress,” Saul said. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”

God abandoned Saul because Saul had done things that upset him. This verse reminds Christians to check their words and deeds. If you have not been following God’s laws, repenting might help you dream again.

Spiritual Ways to Remember Dreams?

Spiritual Ways to Remember Dreams

If you are ready to remember your dreams, start by addressing any underlying physical and mental health issues you haven’t. Focus on your intent, open your mind, and believe that you can remember your dreams.

If you have been using mind-altering substances for spiritual growth, consider cutting back on them for now.

There are some crystals and herbs that can help you with sleep and dreaming. Try sleeping with some moonstone and lavender under your pillow.

You can also unblock and cleanse your third eye chakra. Simply close your eyes and imagine your third eye chakra brightening. You can also use third eye chakra affirmations.

While you are trying these spiritual methods, you may also want to work on lucid dreaming and keep a dream journal.

Frequently Asked Questions

To finish up, let’s answer a couple of more questions you may have about the spiritual ability to dream and the major reasons why you do not have dreams.

Q: I used to remember dreams now I don’t.

A: Sometimes, this can happen because of excess stress. Other times, it could be that you are dealing with an emotional or spiritual blockage. There are also situations where the use of certain drugs can stop you from dreaming.

Q: Is not dreaming a personality disorder?

A: It is understandable if you are worrying that not dreaming means you have a personality disorder. But you will be relieved to learn that not remembering dreams is not something that indicates a personality disorder.

While many people remember their dreams, many people also do not. While the reasons may sometimes concern thoughts and emotions, that is not the same thing as having a personality disorder.
